![]() SPARKS, Nev., Feb. 23, 2005 – SulphCo, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SLPH), a leader in developing and marketing high-powered ultrasound technology and equipment for the petroleum industry, has entered into an agreement for the sale of equipment and an agreement to market its SonocrackingTM technology with OIL-SC, Ltd., based in Seoul, South Korea. SulphCo has developed the patented SonocrackingTM ultrasound process, which upgrades crude oil by increasing the distillate yield while at the same time reducing sulfur and nitrogen content, producing more usable oil per barrel of crude. The equipment sale consists of a SulphCo SonocrackingTM demonstration plant capable of processing up to 2,000 bbl/day of crude oil, as well as other compounds. The sale price of the equipment is $1 million. The transaction represents the first equipment sale recorded by SulphCo, Inc. since its inception in 2000 and subsequent research and development phase. The marketing agreement allows OIL-SC, Ltd. the exclusive right to introduce SulphCo¡¯s proprietary SonocrackingTM ultrasound technology to Korean refiners, as well as to other regional refiners and other parties that can benefit from the technology on a non-exclusive basis. ¡°It is highly rewarding to be chosen as SulphCo¡¯s first production and marketing partner in Asia,¡± said Sang Ok Lee, Representative Director of OIL-SC, Ltd. ¡°We approached SulphCo after following the development of its technology for some time.¡± ¡°We see South Korea as an important initial market in the greater Asian petroleum market,¡± said Rudolf Gunnerman, Chairman and CEO of SulphCo, Inc. ¡°Mr. Lee¡¯s decades of successful business experience in the South Korean petroleum market gives me great confidence in our ability to efficiently grow our business in this part of the world.¡± The SonocrackingTM demonstration plant is anticipated to be constructed, delivered, assembled and permitted in South Korea within the next six months. OIL-SC, Ltd. plans to begin product processing and refinery marketing once the plant is operational. South Korea is the seventh largest oil consumer and fifth largest net oil importer in the world. At the beginning of 2003, South Korea consumed 2.1 million barrels of imported oil per day and had a refining capacity of 2.6 million barrels of oil per day, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). |
