![]() SPARKS, Nev., May 25, 2005 – SulphCo, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SLPH) has received its fifth U.S. patent for its Sonocracking¢â high-powered ultrasound process to upgrade sour heavy crude oil into sweeter lighter crudes, the company announced. Patent no. 6,897,628 was issued on May 24, 2005. Dr. Rudolf W. Gunnerman and Dr. Charles Richman, listed as co-inventors, assigned the patent to SulphCo. SulphCo¡¯s Sonocracking¢â ultrasound process increases the distillate yield while at the same time reducing sulfur and nitrogen content, producing more usable oil per barrel of crude. The new patent, ¡°High-Power Ultrasound Generator and Use in Chemical Reactions,¡± covers the electromagnets and other machinery in SulphCo¡¯s ultrasound generator and how the mechanism works to produce a chemical reaction when ultrasonic waves are introduced. SulphCo currently has four other U.S. patents issued to cover the development and production of its high-powered ultrasound technology and equipment. The first patent, no. 6,402,939, was issued on June 11, 2002, and assigned to SulphCo by Dr. Teh Fu Yen of the University of Southern California. The second, third and fourth patents, nos. 6,500,219, 6,652,992 and 6,827,844, were issued to Rudolf Gunnerman respectively on December 31, 2002, November 25, 2003 and December 7, 2004, and assigned to SulphCo. The company has six other patents pending plus corresponding applications pending around the world. |
