![]() RENO, Nev., June 14, 2004 / -- SulphCo, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SLPH), today announced that it has been awarded the prestigious 2004 Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Leadership in the field of Oil Refining Technologies. This recognition comes after over 400 hours of market analysis conducted by Frost & Sullivan¡¯s industry analysts, who recently completed research report #D274 Oil Refining Technologies – New Developments and Growth Opportunities (Technical Insights 5/26/04). The Technology Leadership Award recognizes a company that has demonstrated excellence in technology within its industry. The recipient company must demonstrate technology leadership by excelling in all stages of the technology life cycle, including incubation, adaptation, take-up and maturity. SulphCo, Inc. was given the award because of its leadership in developing innovative refining technology. SulphCo has developed and patented a truly revolutionary technology that reduces the sulfur content in crude oils and concurrently makes them less dense. In short, SulphCo¡¯s technology makes crude oils ¡°sweeter and lighter¡± (i.e. more valuable). The key to SulphCo's technology is the use of high-power ultrasound to alter naturally occurring molecular structures in hydrocarbons. This is known as "sonochemistry," or chemistry enhanced by intense ultrasound waves. SulphCo has demonstrated that its process can achieve a 2-3 point improvement in API gravity and remove 20-40% of sulfur and nitrogen from crude oils. Unlike traditional desulfurization, SulphCo¡¯s technology works in low-temperature, low-pressure reactors. This process is intended to help refiners avoid or at least reduce the high costs of building new, revamping old, or operating high-pressure/high-temperature hydro-desulfurization (HDS) units.
