15,000 bbl/day Commercial Ultrasound Unit SPARKS, Nev., Feb. 23, 2006 – SulphCo, Inc. (AMEX: SUF) announced today that in-house testing in Sparks, Nevada of its commercial scale 15,000 barrel per day Sonocracking¢â ultrasound unit has been completed.
This unit is virtually identical in design to those units which will comprise the planned 210,000 barrel per day start up at the company¡¯s joint venture in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. SulphCo is now evaluating several candidate sites in the U.S. to conduct a ¡°dress rehearsal¡± start-up and test run in the field, according to the company. Engineers at NTG, which is manufacturing the units for Fujairah, will participate in this test run to facilitate incorporation of any fine tuning required in the manufacturing process now underway in Germany, the company said.
The company said tests which were run on its 5,000 barrel per day unit (three of which make up the 15,000 barrel per day unit) produced a Gravity API increase on heavy Nevada crude from 22 degrees to 30 degrees. The 22 degree API heavy crude is comprised of 45% residuum. After application of the Sonocracking process, the residuum was reduced to 15%, representing a reduction of 30%. The reduction of residuum and increase in lighter oil represents an increase of 14-15 gallons of diesel and kerosene when that crude oil is refined according to distillation models. At the same time viscosity was reduced by 25%.
SulphCo is in the process of selecting a large international contractor to provide project management and coordination support with particular emphasis on infrastructure construction and plant commissioning in Fujairah.
Rudolf Gunnerman, SulphCo Chairman and CEO, stated, ¡°The test run of the commercial unit and construction selection are important milestones to prepare us for a successful start-up in Fujairah. We then will be ready to accelerate the implementation of Sonocracking technology on a much larger scale with both upstream and downstream clients.¡±
