Sulphco, Inc. Accepts 2006 Excellence in Heavy Crude Oil Refining Technology of the Year Award From Frost & Sullivan SPARKS, Nev., June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Peter Gunnerman, President of SulphCo, Inc. (Amex: SUF - News), today announced that the company has accepted the prestigious 2006 Excellence in Heavy Crude Oil Refining Technology of the Year Award for its development of the high performance Sonocracking (TM) technology that helps upgrade sour heavy crude oils into sweeter lighter crude oils. The award was given yesterday in San Diego.
"A major challenge encountered by crude oil refiners is the cost associated with building or revamping old or functional high-pressure/high- temperature hydro-desulphurization (HDS) units," says Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Anil Naidu. "SulphCo's technology operates at conditions of low temperature and pressure, thereby proving to be highly cost effective in comparison to the existing refinery HDS units."
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to a company that has pioneered the development and introduction of an innovative technology into the market. The award recognizes a company's successful technology development that is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change and competitive posture. It also lauds the overall technical excellence of a company and its commitment towards technology innovation.
"SulphCo is honored to receive this award from Frost & Sullivan," said Mr. Gunnerman. "The Sonocracking (TM) technology was created to reduce sulfur and nitrogen content in crude oil while increasing the amount of usable oil from any barrel, and we are happy that its abilities are recognized."
