SulphCo(R) Inc. Announces New Equipment Design for Downstream Refinery Applications
SPARKS, Nev., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SulphCo¢ç, Inc. (Amex: SUF - News) today announced the successful development of a new refinery compatible design of its commercial Sonocracking(TM) units. The new 15,000 barrel per day configuration is designed to be fully automated, easily transported, self-enclosed, space saving and able to meet strict European Union safety and environmental standards applicable to refinery operations.

The new equipment design was developed jointly by engineers from SulphCo¢ç and its principal equipment supplier NTG, located in Gelnhausen, Germany. The first 15,000 barrel per day unit incorporating the new design was developed in the summer of 2006. "Our goal was to minimize the commissioning time of these units once they are placed in a refinery environment so refinery operations are not unduly disrupted," said Gerhard Seidenkranz, President of NTG.

The daily throughput of the new design is one half the size of SulphCo's¢ç standard 30,000 barrel per day upstream modular design and is contained within its own metal housing. The housing which measures by 12.2m by 2.5m by 2.9m (Standard high cube container) is designed to protect the unit components from the elements while and at the same time dampening noise. The unit housing can be transported by a standard flatbed truck and moved with a forklift once on site. The housing also has additional space for critical spare part storage and operator access.

"The growing downstream interest in our Sonocracking(TM) technology necessitated a more refinery compatible design" said Peter Gunnerman, President of SulphCo¢ç. "The smaller footprint and output of these units are optimal for refinery operations. The new design continues to be modularly scalable to accommodate larger crude oil throughput demands but flexible enough to be placed in various locations depending on the configuration of a specific refinery or crude oil storage area."

The refinery configuration has been adapted to strict European Union standards such as ATEX Directive 94/9/EC, Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC, Machinery Directive 98/37/EC, Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EEC and EMC Directive 89/336/EEC.

SulphCo¢ç continues advance towards its stated goal of showcasing the commercial capabilities of its patented Sonocracking(TM) technology in both upstream and downstream crude oil applications.
